Evaluation: Question 2

QUESTION 2:

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Here is a Photoshop splitscreen of an image from my magazine and from Vibe magazine.
  • A similarity of both images is that they both have hand poses.
  • A difference with the hand poses is that in my magazine the model has her hand up to her face and in Vibe magazine the model has it on her head.
  • My magazine includes the scenic background whereas in Vibe there is just a colour background.
  • Costume is similar as both are wearing black and they both have long necklaces on.
  • A similarity is that they both have their legs slightly on show.
  • The model in Vibe magazine is wearing a hat which is a difference to my magazine.
  • In Vibe magazine the model is baring more flesh whereas my magazine does not do this.
  • Both models have blonde hair which is a similarity.
  • My magazine has used a medium close up whereas in Vibe the picture is more of a medium/long shot as it shows slightly more than what a medium close up would.
  • They are both tight framing which is a similarity.
  • In my magazine, the models facial expression is happy and in Vibe the model has a bit more attitude which is a difference. However they both will relate to the story.
  • Both have similar dark make-up.
  • The lighting for both is quite high key which is similar, however, my photo was taken outside giving it some natural light which is a contrast to the other photo.
  • The angles for both magazines are similar.
  • A difference to do with hair is that my model's hair is long and Vibe's model's hair is short.
  • My model is wearing blue as well as black due to the jeans which is different to the other magazine.
  • A contrast with them is that my model is sat down and Vibe's model is stood up.
  • Both have similar style colour lips when it comes to make-up.
