Research and Planning: Prices

Music magazines vary in prices.

Eg. Q magazine - £3.99
      NME magazine - £2.30
      Kerrang magazine - £2.20

I am going to make my music magazine cost £3.00 because I want it to be the style of a glossy magazine therefore, they cost more in price. Plus my magazine will have plenty of features in it.

Research and Planning: Glossy Magazines

Some magazines that are available in shops are known as glossy magazines as they are glossy to touch as the paper is smoother and shiny. Glossy magazines are usually womens magazines or fashion magazines. Even some home furnishing magazines are glossy. It is rare to get a glossy music magazine. I want to make mine the style of a glossy magazine which is full of different features. Also, glossy type magazines are usually dearer in price so therefore, my music magazine will be dearer in price.

Research and Planning: Music Magazine Double Page Spread Draft

Here is the draft for my double page spread for my music magazine. I have included a title which includes a quote from the interview in my magazine in the double page spread. I have also wrote an intoruduction paragraph to the content of the page. I have stated where I will be using text and pictures and I have also shown where the interview will finish. I even added page numbers to make it more realistic as a magazine and to show the audience the page numbers. A few changes may be made in the final piece but this is my rough draft that I will try to follow. Changes will only be made if they need to be.

Research and Planning: Music Magazine Contents Page Draft

Here is my draft for my contents page for my music magazine. I have written down a title and the type of font I may want to put it in which is graffitti writing as it is more modern. I have shown where I will be putting my pictures as well as showing where my text will be. I have written what will be included in my magazine so that I know to include all these features in the final contents page. I have chosen features with artists that are singers of the R&B genre to stick with the genre I have chosen to use. I have worked out page numbers and decided that page 60 is my final page as that is a more common final page number for most magazines.

Research and Planning: Music Magazine Cover Page Draft

This is my draft for the front cover of my music magazine. I have drawn on the title to show the design in which I am wanting it which is graffitti style writing as it is fairly modern. I have shown where the text is going for certain features and which features will be shown on the cover page. I have shown where the main picture will be as well as the main story title which is bigger than the other features. I have added extra features such as upcoming gigs and a competition. I have added a barcode, price, date and issue number on there too to make it a realistic magazine. Also I have added a tagline. I have chosen the tagline to be 'Simple, Smooth, Slick' as it describes the magazine well and also the use of alliteration makes it seem catchy to the audience and it alliterates with the title of the magazine too.

Research and Planning: Release of Magazine

Music magazines have all different types of release dates.
Some magazines are weekly, some are fortnightly and some are even monthly.I am taking into consideration whether my magazine will be weekly, fornightly or monthly.
I am thinking of making my magazine a weekly magazine as then it is more consistent and it will be continuous to have it out weekly. I will put the date of the issue on my magazine that I am producing. For my style of magazine I think that this will be suitable for it to be weekly.

Research and Planning: Issue Number

When making my magazine I also have to consider the issue number that my magazine will be.
Issue numbers are important on magazines as people know which issue it is, how old/new the issue is and how many issues exactly there has been of a particular magazine.
If it is a brand new magazine being issue number 1 then it needs a lot of advertising and usually there are some sort of sticker on the magazine being noticeable stating that it is the very first issue.
I have decided to make mine issue number 10, so that it isn't the first ever issue but it hasn't been around that long either.

Research and Planning: Definition Of R&B

Definition

Rhythm and Blues, often abbreviated to R&B is a genre of popular African American music that originated in the 1940's. The term was originally used by by record companies to describe recordings marketing to urban African Americans at a time when urbane, rocking, jazz based music with a heavy insistent beat was becoming popular.

Starting in the 1950's the term 'R&B' became used to refer to music styles that developed from electric blues as well as gospel and soul music. By the 1970's, R&B was used as a term for soul and funk. In the 1980's a new style of R&B was introduced and developed, known as Contemporary R&B.

Research and Planning: Plan For The Week

My plan for the week is to try and get some more test shots done but this time with my main model. I will also be thinking about my location and trying out different locations and seeing which ones looked the best for my magazine.
I will also think about costume and props and which to use on my model for my magazine.

Research and Planning: Problems With Production

Due to the bad weather conditions this past week, it has caused problems with my original plan of taking some more shots of my main models for my magazine.
It was difficult due to the snow to go out to my locations that I wanted to try out and also to take any pictures. There was also problems with trying to go out due to being snowed in at home.
